Are you
egglessly cycling?
There are a number of reproductive disturbances
that often go undetected because they occur silently within a woman’s
menstrual cycle. Anovulatory
cycles are menstrual cycles in which bleeding occurs without an egg
being released. If you don’t want to get pregnant, does ovulation
matter? Unfortunately, infertility isn’t the only issue at stake. When
ovulation doesn't occur, the unhealthy hormone imbalance that occurs is related
to bone loss, heavy flow, and anemia in otherwise healthy young women., and
it may also increase the risk for breast and endometrial (uterine lining) cancers
and heart disease later in life.
To address the current gaps in our knowledge
about ovulation and to empower women with information to assess their own reproductive
cycles, the Centre
for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research (CeMCOR) launched the Menstruation
and Ovulation Study (MOS). MOS is a women’s health research initiative
that is funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR).
JOIN US!
CeMCOR is actively still enrolling participants for the Menstruation
and Ovulation Study. We welcome any woman who fits the following criteria to
join our study and find out more about their reproductive cycle.
Are you a woman who:
- Has menstruated within the last 3 months?
- Has not used oral contraceptives or hormones within 3 months?
- Has not had a hysterectomy?
- Is between the ages of 20 and 40?
What is involved in the study?
- An initial interview session (should take between 30 to 45 minutes) and
a final interview (should take less than 10 minutes).
- Keeping a Menstrual Cycle Diary© during the course of one menstrual
cycle.
- Collecting 5 urine samples (at home) two weeks preceeding your period .
